🌟The 7 Themed Lands You Should Visit

Themed Land #1: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Studios Beijing

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the most frequently visited theme park in Universal Studios Beijing. If you are a devoted fan of the Harry Potter series, then you would certainly be fascinated by this particular area.

Ride#1: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter 2 Universal Studios Beijing

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™ is an immersive 5D ride that is a must-visit for visitors to this themed park. The ride is set inside a replica of Hogwarts Castle, identical to the one in the movie. Besides meeting Harry Potter and his friends, you can wander through the halls and classrooms of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, immersing yourself in the world of Harry Potter. This ride offers a completely unique and engaging experience for visitors.

Due to its popularity, this ride often has the longest queues in the park, and visitors will be asked to deposit their bags once they reach a certain point in the line. It’s important to note that large bags won’t fit, so it’s best to leave them behind. Additionally, visitors under 122cm tall will not be permitted to ride.

Ride#2: Flight of the Hippogriff

While a HawkHorse flight may not be as thrilling as a large roller coaster, a family-friendly coaster that twists and turns around a pumpkin patch offers an exciting experience. You can even climb to the top for a panoramic view of a magical world, where you can capture photos and videos to remember the moment.

Show: Ollivander

In the Hogsmeade Wizarding Village, there’s a store called Ollivander’s that offers an interactive experience where fortunate visitors are chosen to take part in a live demonstration of a wand choosing its wizard. If you’re one of the lucky ones selected, you can receive the wand as a gift for free (valued at 349RMB). Typically, if there are children in the audience, they will most likely be selected to participate in this exciting experience.

🔥Take note: The Harry Potter themed area currently features other various shows like the Express Conductor, Triwizard Spirit Rally, and Frog Choir. However, the schedule of these performances may change, so it is advisable to check the real-time wait times on the app or stay updated with the information displayed on the large screen.

🥘Dining in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

  • Three Broomsticks: The eatery attracts the most customers. For those disinterested in movies, it is not worth the visit. A glass of butterbeer costs CNY 50 and CNY 80 for a souvenir mug, both are quite popular. As for food, the menu offers ribs platter for CNY 148, roast chicken platters for CNY 118, and drinks for CNY 16 per cup. The restaurant has limited outdoor viewing spots, but you can get a great view of the castle from the lake.
  • Hog’s Head: This is a recreated scene from a film set that features a hog’s head that moves. At this location, customers can purchase beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and pumpkin juice. For those seeking non-alcoholic options, the Hog’s Head is an ideal destination with shorter lines to indulge in butterbeer.

🛍️Stores in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter boasts the most number of stores in Universal Studios. Enthusiasts of the Harry Potter series can indulge in shopping to their heart’s content. However, it should be noted that popular merchandise tends to sell out quickly at this location.

  • Dervish and Banges: Various Quidditch equipment can be purchased here, including Golden Snitch badges for CNY 99 and ornaments for CNY 139.
  • Hogsmeade Station: Do you recall Platform nine and three-quarters? This is the exact location. There are several benches where you can take a break. In the store, you can find an assortment of items such as T-shirts, keychains, backpacks, picture frames, cups, and more.
  • Gladrags Wizardwear: You can discover all the necessary equipment for wizards, including clothing, accessories, and college-themed apparel at this store. Some popular items include the magic robe priced at CNY 849, and the Hermione’s Time Changer necklace priced at CNY 349.
  • Filch’s Emporium™ of Confiscated Goods: The Cantankerous Caretaker has confiscated various items, including the Harry Potter Quill Stationery package priced at CNY 269, a broomstick for CNY 249, and a ceramic cup available for CNY 229.
  • Ollivander: You will see a similarity to the wand shop depicted in the movie. The store contains an abundance of drawers stocked with wands, from which you have the liberty to select the one that suits you the most. The cost of each wand is CNY 359.

Themed Land #2: Transformers Metrobase

Transformers Universal Studios Beijing

Megatron is a well-known Autobot that visitors can take photos with. He also interacts with you during the photo session and has a good sense of humor, making it an enjoyable experience.

Ride#1: Decepticoaster

Decepticoaster Universal Studios Beijing

This amusement ride is incredibly thrilling and intense. To fully enjoy the scenic view, it is recommended to keep your eyes open while riding the roller coaster. Please note that there is a height limit of 132cm, and it is necessary to deposit your bag at the start of the line. It’s important to remember that phones and GoPros are not allowed, as the use of these devices is risky. Be prepared to wait in line for over 120 minutes without access to your phone.

Ride#2: Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark

If you’re apprehensive about taking the Decepticon roller coaster, there’s an alternative 5D ride available that can be your choice. This ride requires wearing 3D glasses to join Autobot in battle, providing the experience of soaring through the air. There’s no requirement to be of a certain height, and the experience is enjoyable.

Ride#3: Bumblebee Boogie

This is a suitable option for children and resembles the spinning cup ride. The car can accommodate two to three individuals while the bumblebee dances in the center.

🥘Dining in Transformers Metrobase

Within the various dining options available at the Transformers Metrobase, the Energon Power Station specializes in Chinese cuisine and provides a dish consisting of steamed fish with fried rice for the price of CNY 58. Meanwhile, the Hall of Order features pizza pasta and Hawaiian pizza for CNY 88. Lastly, Swerve’s Lounge serves grilled skewer rice for CNY 68, although my personal experience with this dish was not enjoyable.

🛍️Stores in Transformers Metrobase

Hound’s Impounds and The Supply Vault offer a variety of Transformers-themed merchandise, including apparel, keychains, drinkware, and replica Autobots for enthusiasts to purchase as memorabilia or collectibles.

Themed Land #3: WaterWorld

Experience an exhilarating spectacle at Universal Studios’ WaterWorld-themed section, where you’ll witness one of the most impressive water-based demolition stunts in the park. Prepare to be captivated by daring jet ski maneuvers and intense plunges that will immerse you in a heart-pounding, life-or-death scenario, providing a truly up-close and personal experience.

Show: WaterWorld Stunt Show

WaterWorld Universal Studios Beijing

Explore a glimpse of the upcoming times at this place. Indulge in the exhilarating jet ski stunt and the popular “plane crash” act at the WaterWorld Stunt Show. Kindly note that there are only two shows scheduled per day, so be sure to get in line ahead of time to secure your spot or else, you’ll have to wait for the next one.

The Water World venue has a capacity of two or three thousand attendees, classified into three sections, namely red, green, and blue. The dry region is marked red, the semi-dry and semi-wet area is highlighted green, whereas the wet area is identified with blue. If you’re looking for an immersive experience, then you should consider the blue zone as your preferred choice.

Before the beginning of the show, the cast members will engage with the spectators, possibly by playfully dousing them with water.

🥘Dining in WaterWorld

Drifter’s Cantina is the sole dining option available in WaterWorld. I have personally tasted their cheeseburger served with BBQ sauce and fries, which was reasonably priced at CNY 78. Moreover, the restaurant is not crowded, which eliminates the need for waiting in long lines.

Themed Land #4: Jurassic World Isla Nublar

Jurassic World Isla Nublar Universal Studios Beijing

The theme park is designed to be an exact replica of the iconic Jurassic World Nubra Island scene, rendering it the only location worldwide with this distinctive aspect. The vast park features unexplored rainforests, breathtaking waterfalls, enigmatic lakes, and long-extinct prehistoric dinosaurs that have been ingeniously brought back to life. Young enthusiasts who are passionate about dinosaurs will find this fantasy adventure an absolute delight!

Ride: Jurassic World Adventure

I discovered a great deal of enjoyment during my excursion on the Jurassic World Adventure, which takes riders on an all-terrain luxury autonomous system into the exciting world of Isla Nubra for up-close experiences with dinosaurs in a dark jungle – providing an incredibly realistic encounter. What’s more, Jurassic World Adventure is a 5D ride that can be enjoyed without any bag deposits, making it an accessible experience for all.

Show: Raptor Encounter

The Raptor Encounter is a show where spectators can witness an exciting performance featuring a velociraptor, although there tends to be a long wait time in line. Lucky members of the audience have the chance to interact with the dinosaur, making it an engaging experience for visitors of all ages. However, it is worth noting that this particular performance may be more enjoyable for children than for adults.

🥘Dining in Jurassic World Isla Nublar

There are several dining options available at Jurassic World Adventure, including Hammond’s, an elegant western-style restaurant that specializes in steak, burgers, and pasta. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Isla Nublar at The Overlook restaurant while savoring a delectable meal. For a highly recommended dish, Amber Ridge’s Braised Pork Knuckle is a must-try and costs CNY98. Moreover, the Birds of Prey Café offers a variety of delicious dishes such as Shrimp Laksa, Beef Noodles, and Pan-seared dumplings.

🛍️Store in Jurassic World Isla Nublar

Themed Land #5: Minion Land

Minion Land is the most charming area in UBR! It’s a lively and vibrant world where mischievous little minions roam around the neighborhood, the harbor, as well as the city center. The place is teeming with delightful minions, making it an ideal spot for photo shoots and a perfect theme area for family tours!

Ride#1: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is an unmissable attraction in the world of Minion Land, that comes with a height restriction of 102cm. On this adventure, visitors get to soar up and down with the minions, experiencing a fun ride in a 4D environment that’s always jovial and carefree.

Ride#2: Loop-Dee Doop-Dee & Super Swirly in Super Silly Fun Land

The amusement rides at Super Silly Fun Land are situated indoors, making it a great destination for a family outing. You can not only relish the Loop-Dee Doop-Dee roller coaster ride but also enjoy a 360-degree view of Super Silly Fun Land while taking a ride on Super Swirly, which elevates riders to a considerable height. Additionally, taking pictures with the minions is highly encouraged, making the park an ideal location for photography enthusiasts.

Show: SING on Tour!

The theater provides a comfortable spot for audiences to sit and watch the performance, with great lighting and sound. The interaction with Mina and Johnny would be very exciting for children. Furthermore, during the Universal on Parade, the theater is not as crowded, which is a good opportunity for audiences to watch the show before attending the tour.

🥘Dining in Minion Land

All eateries in Minion Land offer fast food, such as Silly Snax, Paradise Mall, and The Lair – Villain Restaurant, that comes with a variety of food items including Teriyaki Beef Burger priced at CNY 88, Korean Braised Beef Brisket priced at CNY 78, delicious Minion Desserts can be enjoyed for just CNY 38, coffee costs CNY 20 and pizza costs CNY 78.

🛍️Store in Minion Land

The Minion Mart presents an enjoyable shopping experience, showcasing unique items such as the minion selfie popcorn bucket, a thermos mug also priced around CNY 150, and the exclusive Chinese-only zodiac series. These items are exclusively available at the store.

Themed Land #6: Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness

As the initial theme park of Universal Studios Beijing that features Chinese elements, the entire park has been designed to resemble an ancient night market, featuring authentic Chinese buildings and real-life movie scenes. Additionally, it is also the only fully air-conditioned indoor space in the entire park, providing a comfortable atmosphere for visitors to enjoy during any season.

Ride#1:Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior

This ride happens to be the most extended queueing ride accessible within the park and is similar to the experience of indoor rafting. The gradient of the rafting slope is fairly low, providing an opportunity to admire the dynamic lighting effects. Children who are shorter than 80cm are not permitted to participate in it.

Ride#2:Lanterns of Legendary Legends

The hot air balloon in The Valley of Peace takes on a “Chinese” appearance, decorated with a multitude of colorful lanterns that give it a stunning view. The experience of flying in the balloon comes with a slight swaying sensation that can be somewhat thrilling. However, the most captivating part of the ride is the breathtaking aerial views of the colorful surroundings, which gives an exciting sensation of being inside a Kung Fu panda movie.

Ride#3:Carousel of Kung Fu Heroes

This is the Kung Fu Panda-themed carousel, where you can choose from a variety of characters featured in the movie. It has a unique spin, differing from a typical carousel, which could be attributed to the ambiance, music, and lighting that give off a martial arts movie vibe, evoking a feeling of floating.

Ride#4: Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp

This is an interactive play area designed specifically for children, and it also includes movie screenings and a two-story rotating slide. It’s definitely a must-visit for those with kids!

🥘Dining in Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness

Some of the Chinese restaurants available in this area are Mr. Ping’s Noodle House, Kung Fu Snacks, and Grandma Panda’s Kitchen. These restaurants offer Chinese food and snacks, with prices varying from dish to dish. Some of the dishes include Cantonese shrimp and pork Wonton noodles priced at CNY 68, Beijing Zha Jiang Mian priced at CNY 58, Sichuan DanDan Mian priced at CNY 68, and Hand Pulled Noodles with Beef Stock priced at CNY 58.

Themed Land #7: Hollywood

The Hollywood-themed park at the entrance of UBR can make you feel like you’re in California with its realistic palm trees, restored American streets, and the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame adorned with 1990s American comic ads. The experience becomes even better at night, especially with the eye-catching front of Mel’s Drive-In restaurant. The retro decor outside the restaurant, coupled with the display of vintage cars parked nearby, adds to the overall charm.

Show#1: Lights Camera Action!

The Lights Camera Action show is comprised of two distinct segments. The first segment presents a short film, which showcases two legendary film directors, Zhang Yimou, and Steven Spielberg, guiding the audience through the process of using green screens for special effects in film-making. The second portion of the show provides an opportunity to witness these special effects in action, creating a highly realistic visual experience for viewers.

Show#2: Universal on Parade

Universal on Parade is a must-see attraction in addition to the seven theme parks. However, it is important to note that there is only one show per day, so it is advisable to keep track of the time when you enter the park. It is also possible to enjoy the show from any part of the park, saving you the inconvenience and hassle of traveling to Hollywood to witness the opening. The actors are friendly, and you can greet them, and they will respond warmly. If you’re familiar with the movie, you’ll feel more involved in the spectacle.

🥘Dining in Hollywood

The Hollywood-themed zone is an excellent spot to have afternoon tea. At Mel’s Drive-in, patrons can fuel up with a Classic Double Cheeseburger, Sichuan Crispy Chicken Sandwich, or a satisfying Foot Long Hot Dog. Sunset Grill is a mid-to-high-end restaurant featuring a fusion of Chinese and Western dishes with a beautiful lake view, and there is usually not much of a wait for dinner.

🛍️Store in Hollywood

Universal Studios Store: The store that tourists visiting Hollywood simply cannot miss is the largest one located within the park. If you purchase a product from any other store within the park and opt for a check-up service, you will have to collect your item from this store. It is highly recommended that every visitor makes a stop at this store during their visit to Hollywood.

Universal CityWalk Beijing

CityWalk is a pedestrian-friendly area located near Universal Studios, and it can be accessed without a ticket all seven days a week from 07:30 to 00:30, although changes may occur on special occasions. 🌟Tips to Avoid Crowds While Visiting Universal Studios Beijing Resort

Arriving early at the park

It is advisable to arrive at the park in advance as a little-known fact about Beijing Universal Studio is that the displayed entrance time on their mini program may differ from the actual opening time by up to 30 minutes. Depending on a particular day, the park may open earlier than the scheduled time. Therefore, it is important to plan accordingly and be aware of this beforehand to avoid any inconvenience or disappointment.

Adjust route based on attraction queues

Upon entering the park, guests can obtain a free map and choose from seven themed parks to begin their first ride. The most popular attractions include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Decepticoaster, and Jurassic World Adventure, but the queues for these rides can be long at any time of the day, lasting up to at least 120 minutes. Once you have experienced the first few rides in one park, it is advised to be flexible with your route since each ride requires a considerable amount of queueing time. Instead, you can take advantage of a small program or a big screen nearby to find a ride with the shortest queue time to save time.

Hold off on dining

During the hours of 11 a.m. to about 2 p.m., there is a chance of fewer lines at the restaurants. This time of the day is ideal for those who want to experience various attractions without having to wait in long lines. Additionally, after everyone has finished eating, you can enter any restaurant you like. It’s important to note that restaurants are open all day, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on any meals.

Shop at the end of your visit

It is quite common for visitors to be tempted to engage in some retail therapy and browse through shops before visiting other theme parks. However, this may lead to a waste of precious time at the park. Therefore, to make the most of your day tour, it’s best to prioritize the rides and attractions, and save shopping for later.

In China, the government has strict regulations on internet access, leading to the blocking of popular websites and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube. To access these sites, a VPN is suggested as a means of bypassing the restrictions. It is important to choose a reputable VPN provider and use caution while doing so. ExpressVPN has been historically deemed the most reliable VPN for this purpose, despite being heavily targeted by China’s censors.
